Interesting. I like the "Join the Journey" slogan.

Yea, I liked that, too.

Hopefully they will add the links page back in. I just sent off an e-mail to that effect.

Rick BLove the logo. Preserves what was essential about the old one while adding other interesting elements.

Has anyone ever considered using an "AT" stencil for the white blazes?

I was just on there to get info about the laundry mat in Kent, CT., Most info. and links are there, it is just arranged a little differently than what we are used to.

flash sites suck. I know its just the front page, but I hate sites that use flash when its not required. I disable flash because of all the annoying flash ads on the net.

I think their new site is great and I wish them well with it, along with their new name, magazine, etc.

Am hoping they add a Links section to the web site, with a prominent mention of WB, of course.

Looks like they did some nice work. Who will be the first to get a tattoo of that new logo? That slogan is very close to our Blue Ridge Parkway N.C. license plate which reads: Share The Journey

Is it only me, or is anyone else being taken to the ATC page by way of a "kintera.org" site? The page displays as the ATC's page, but the location bar shows http://www.kintera.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.816391/k.A65F/Trail_Alerts.htm#GIS

Kintera appears to be a for-profit business masquerading as a charitable organization. Also, if you read the "Terms of Service," you see that you cannont opt out of getting spammed by them.

I surely hope the ATC would touch not such a service with a ten-foot pole.

Rainman, this is the url I see

http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.694599/k.CCB5/Home.htm

Possibly the kintera is some sort of partnership agreement with your ISP?

More likely... Kintera is the company that designed the new ATC website - or had some involvement in its creation. That kind of job is usually outsourced in a small - medium non-profit. The organizatoin (ie: ATC) handles the content, and the contractor usually handles the design & implementation.

I got the same re-direct. If I'm not mistaken, it wasn't a name only change. The "new' ATC will be more into "professional" fund raising then ever before.

I guess, with federal funds drying up, they couldn't rely on deadbeat hikers to carry the cause.

Nice. A 5, maybe. I thought the guy from AOL they brought in would've done better.
"Kintera.org" is also running the ATC's customer support.

Nope. If you try to go to a page from the old site that doesn't exist on the new one, you go straight to the kintera home page.

Try, for instance, the Mapping and GIS page (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/protect/gis/index.html).

If you thought that the old ATC wasn't much like most of us, you'll probably find the new guys to be even worse. You'll probably see a tired old fellow jump in and say that I have no idea what I'm saying, but if hikers expect to have an organization look out for "us," it'll have to be ALDHA. I'm not very optimistic, however.

I'm new to this game, and I'm not familiar with what the site used to be, what the organization is/was/claimed to be, etc.

when I click on the url you posted above, it takes me to the entry point to the "new" ATC site. I've yet to find any mention of kintera in anything, that's why I suggested that it might be something in the package your ISP is providing. But now, taking the time to wonder what kintera is, I google'd it and find that it's a software/data management firm. Ok, we kind of suspected that didn't we? Still, I can't get it to reveal itself in the links to the ATC site. Guess I'll leave well enough alone.
