This poll asks if you have seen a fox along the AT.

If so, please share details. Was it a red fox or grey? Healthy looking? What time of day? Etc.

I have only seen a few, but there was one on top if Carter Dome that kept checking my wife and I out as we ate our lunches. Circling might be a better way of putting it -- albeit in a timid way. I wondered at the time if it might have been sick as its behavior wasn't exactly natural, and kept my stick close at hand. It could have just been habituated to people, though.

Sometimes, I've caught them trailing behind me. Both are elusive but I think the Grey Fox is a bit more shy than the Red Fox.

I saw a red fox while hiking through a field just outside of Boiling Springs in '09. The fox looked quite healthy. Just sharin' the trail early one morning.

I seen a red fox with two little ones. The little ones were playing and rolling in the leaves. I sat and watched them for 10 min. before they made there way down the hill and out of sight. It was cool to see. This was just before the Vango bench north of 19E Elk Part North Carolina.

I saw a pack of them at Hawk Mountain shelter. They were from Tupelo Ms and were having more fun than anyone else that I met!

Plenty of Red Foxes in New England. Saw one on the AT in VT, it was chasing a chipmunk and the chipmunk ran straight at me. Both chipmunk and fox did a stop/wide-eyed doubletake/u-turn just like in a cartoon when the chipmunk realized he was about to run between my legs. Chipmunk saved, fox po'd and hungry.

Walking into Harpers Ferry mid afternoon near where the trail ends and C&O Towpath begins.

From my angle it was light brown in color but was high tailing it away from us so couldn't be sure.
