Uh, oh. I see the percentage of completed thru-hikes going down as soon as they hit Damascus.

Can I hijack ur thread, LW? There's a couple of "hot topics" that I want to discuss! :p You know- this brewery being one... along with a 14 year old girl hiking solo with parents supporting her as she goes. Also, hikers trashing hotel rooms to the point of giving all hikers a bad name! Ur friend HikerMomKD.;) :banana

We are lucky to have a local brewery in our neighborhood here, Dogfish Head. Great beer and great jobs. Takes drinking beer to a new level. Means you aren't just drinking beer, you are helping the local economy.

TD55 - you are lucky! Such awesome beers produced there. I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Sam several years ago. Great guy.

My Fiance's family lives in Abington. Looks like we will be taking quite a few day trips to Damascus. Any idea when it might be open? I should be in the area this summer.

I am still a passive, part owner of Ann Arbor's first brewpub. If you ever visit the University of Michigan you have to check them out: www.ArborBrewing.com (http://www.ArborBrewing.com)

You know a guy that serves bacon cheese cake at his brew pub is going to be a cool guy.

Best damn IPA out there too. The 60 and 90 minute are in my top 5 favorites IPA's

Pisgah Brewery in Asheville, NC makes a Bacon Stout that is absolutely fantastic!

don't forget Nantahala Brewing in Bryson City - the 8 foot drop douple IPA is worth the stop - usually have some of their brews on tap at the NOC

The Damascus Brewery is open and it is cool! Just went there last weekend and it is awesome. There was a really good IPA called "Beaver Rage" and the atomosphere was super cool. Lots of locals and hikers. Way better than the dive bars in town. Locals are even nice enough to give you a ride back to town if ya ask. Thanks for the ride back to hiker park!

Oooh. Will have to check out it out when my wife and I come back down for our anniversary next month. This past March we were in Damascus with the kids but a trip to the brewery wasn't really an option ;) We got our suds at the Blue Blaze along with our grub. It fit the bill for a refill after a good day's hike.

. . . Way better than the dive bars in town. . . Personally I prefer a good dive bar. YMMV.
