The first time I posted in this forum I did not know many of the abbreviations which are commonly used in this forum and it took me a while to know most of them and still I do not know some of them.

Let's mention these abbreviations to make it easier for new members who start posting in this forum understand these abbreviations:

For start here are some of them:

ATC: Appalachian Trail Conservancy
ALDHA: Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association

And here is a link to the list of regional Trail Maintaining Clubs -- they have acronyms folks might have heard of:

http://www.appalachiantrail.org/who-we-are/our-team/trail-maintaining-clubs

Some of the more prominent ones are:

MATC: Maine Appalachian Trail Club
GMC: Green Mountain Club (Vermont)
PATC: Potomac Appalachian Trail Club
TEHCC: Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club
AMC: Appalachian Mountain Club (some of New Hampshire and Maine)

This last one is sometimes referred to by less understanding hikers as the GDAMC . (just a joke, folks)

I second that, excellent thread Kookork. If we get enough of these abbreviations, we could probably consolidate them into an new Article on the site.
