Approach Trail: My knees say no.
I had to amend my start year to 2015. Last November my GP ordered chest x-rays. then CT, then PET. Specialist from UVa told me last week that I have very early lung cancer. Surreal. I hiked Old Rag yesterday and feel fine.
Surgery on the 14th followed by radiation.
Thankfully, I've got some great friends. "Stop your whining and beat this"
Exactly what I plan on doing.
Plan on being on trail Feb 2015.

Estimated Start Date: mid-April -- quitting my job after my 3 year anniversary there and leaving the city!
Approach Trail - sure!
Sadly after 8 months of planning I won't be heading out on the Trail this year... family situation at the moment requires me to be home, and that coupled with a last minute moderate ankle injury has me sidelined at the moment. But I'm adding my name to the list for 2015!
And to 12th Man -- all the best to you!! Hope your surgery and all goes well, and cheers to postponing -- not canceling -- dreams, and to hitting the Trail next year :)

First time long distance hike attempt but so jumping in with both feet and going for a half way hike up the trail during the summer. I've wanted to do the AT since I read "a walk in the woods" by Bill Bryson 10 years ago or so. Can't wait to get out there!

Hi Sunny! Fella SoBo here 01Jun14 (or when Katahdin is open) Glad to see you are taking your leap of faith and setting forth. One little idea I want to toss your way: as long as you 'feel' you are looking for something, and hoping to find, etc. as long as you stand in those vibrations of "I don't have, therefore..." then what you think you want can never reach you (or really, you align with it). There is always abundance, of everything.... hey, there's even an abundance of Lack! So stop looking, and just feel good, be happy...R-e-g-a-r-d-l-e-s-s of everything around you and all that's in your life. And when you do, Whammo! Watch what you wish for! Get out of your own way: Leave your mind at home; take only your heart. Happy Trails, Happier feet, and Lots more remembering who you really are on your journey :) .......................... if you truly dare to!

Finally breaking free to do the whole shebang! Hiked in 2011 with a friend for 200 miles in VA. Starting relatively late so I will have to keep up quite a pace in order to make it to my sister's wedding in September. See you on the trail!

This is JMTBuzz and my trail name was Buzz.
My daughter Tandem and I started on 03/16/14 and skipped the Approach Trail.
We completed at Katahdin on 08/19/14.
