What do you put your cash, debit card and ID in? I am looking for something small and totally water proof. Also it must be easy to carry around town when I leave my pack behind. I thought of zip lock bags but I would rather have something a little better than a zip lock bag.

Freezer ziploc bag. Nothing better, I think. I could wrap it around my cards and what little cash I carried and it was pretty small and light. The same bag worked for almost the entire 500 miles.

A slightly bigger than credit card sized zip loc seems ideal if lightness is the priority. Fairly heavy duty ones that size can be hard to find though.

If you need something more wallet like, maybe make a duct tape and tyvek wallet? They are easy enough to make. More wallet like than that? Then maybe just take a wallet?

Not 100% waterproof but ID's, credit/debit card and Insurance cards usually are so 100% waterproof may be overkill. Only makes sense if getting other stuff from ZPacks at the same time.

I carried it in the zipped back pocket of my pants for 5 months on the AT. Worked like a charm.

I usually just carry them in my pocket when not in my pack. Even in my pack it's not in a waterproof container as both cash and credit cards are waterproof by themselves. For a wallet, I like the tyvek or duct tape (or both) wallet ideas. My main concern is that it might fall out of the pocket I have it in. Another idea is to just put them in the leg of your sock (assuming you half calf length socks).

Other than the ziploc bag that's all I got.

I have a nylon wallet that has a cord to hang it around your neck. I sleep with it on. I'm never separated from my money, credit cards, a lighter and my headlamp when on the trail. The cash is wrapped around the cards and put in a Ziploc.

I use a Velcro sports wallet like max patch posted. I put it in a zip lock when its in my pack.

Years ago my Abuela would sew in a small pocket big enough to hold a dime in our stoppenfloppers.
Years ago when you could both find a phone booth & make a phone call for a dime.
I just use my bra to hold my ATM card & Driver's license when I'm out shopping downtown by foot. For daily neighborhood hikes I carry my phone in the same spot... easy for me to make a call quickly.
I do keep five $1 bills in a pocket for those times that I need to toss something @ anyone asking for money. The theory is that five separate bills will scatter and most peoples reaction is to chase after them giving you an opportunity to run.

Pockets on clothing are good if there's a flap that can be buttoned down to close.
Should be an easy DIY project to make a neck wallet outta some ripstop & cordage.

Time is short. I am leaving in two days to visit family in Georgia and then off the Springer. I think I will put my stuff in a zip lock and then put that in a Altoid can. I plan on going to the half way point so I will see if this arrangement works out. All items are easily replaced so this should work fine.

I have a small fishing license holder from cabela's that zips closed and attaches to the inside of my pack or pocket with a large safety pin. It is small though. Usually I just use my regular wallet that I trust not to fall out of my pocket and into a cat hole. I tried a plastic ziplock but just couldn't keep it from working itself out of my pocket unless it was wrapped in my bandana.

Different strokes, but I have a hard time seeing the logic of carrying stuff like wallet and keys in a pants pocket when backpacking. It isn't likely you need the wallet more often than every few days, so why not pack that stuff away. BTW on the keys it makes sense, to me at least, to only take one if even that.
