Parking at Neel's Gap

I know you can't park directly at Neel's Gap, but there is a one mile side blue blaze trail that leads to a vistor center or something. I was informed you can park there. Is this true? Max time frame? Price? When do they open(we are dropping car off at 830-9am)?

Approx .3 miles north of Neels Gap/Mtn Xings on Hwy 129 is the Byron H Reece Memorial trailhead. Paved, marked parking spaces. No charge, but limited number of spaces that fill up quick. You have to arrive early. You WILL get a ticket for parking anywhere other than a marked space.

Don't know about a visitors center. Are you talking about the Byron Reece parking area (just north of Neels Gap on the highway)? :)

When you park at Byron Reece and take the blue blazed trail to the AT...if you turn left (N) in about a mile you'll reach Mountain Crossings. Thats about as good as any "welcome center" you're gonna get on the AT.
