View Full Version : Backpacking Software

I know most people have their own customized spreadsheets they use to keep track of all of their gear. I used to do the same, but I've written an application that helps me keep track of my gear and lets me easily build pack lists and plan trips including menus and itineraries, and thought other people might like to play around with it. I know not everyone likes to use software to keep track of backpacking equipment, and that some people already have a workable solution, this is for people who like to tinker, or aren't satisfied with their spreadsheet like I wasn't. The programs is free and available for windows 7 (I'm working on an XP version), osx, and linux, it is still in beta testing, but should be bug-free for most people. If you want the source code, let me know, I'd be happy to post it and have people improve upon it. I'd really like to see this project evolve into something that could be of use to the backpacking community.
Cheers.

Good work on the program. Your video certainly brought back memories of coding GUIs in C++.

Thanks, redseal. I'm a scientific programmer by trade, just wanted to do this for fun and to make a tool I can use myself. As I'm sure you know, computational programming is extremely different than GUI programming. I've been poking around your blog, I really like it.

The downloads above did not work for me. I have windows & and when I downloaded it . It downloaded about 4 programs which had nothing to do with the program. Spent hours removing them from my computer.

For those that have used both, How does this compare with Geargrams? Ive got a lot of time put into my library and gearlists in geargrams, but I would do it again if this looks to be moving past what geargrams offers. I do like the Tabs for each category.

I was really hoping to use this program on my iPad. Downloaded it in Google Drive as specified. Would not open.

I downloaded successfully on a Windows7 PC. When you move the downloaded zip file onto the folder you create, the zip file appears as a sub folder. You then have to save in the parent folder ( the one you create).
