Down in TN/NC at Dennis Cove there is the Black Bear Resort (down the road from Bob People's). Laurel Creek runs right through the property and they stock it...weekly, I believe. The trail goes past many spots along the creek. I know I sure wanted to fish it.

There was a thru hiker in 2000 named Wasabi that fished a lot of the AT and was gonna write a book about it when he finished. Don't know if he ever did.
All good info! Thanks a bunch!

Since this thread is posted under MAINE I though I would add some Maine Info: From NH border NOBO- http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/oxford/surplus_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/franklin/long_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/franklin/sabbathday_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/franklin/eddy_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/franklin/the_horns_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/somerset/carry_pond_west.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/somerset/east_carry_pond.pdf http://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/lakesurvey_maps/somerset/pierce_pond.pdf The greatest concentration of Maine Trout waters is in Franklin County. There are many streams that you will pass and ford, but these warm up in the summer and may not be too productive. If you are here in the summer, be aware that after the waters warm in lakes and ponds, the fish will be at depth except in the early AM and PM. Also many of Maine's Trout waters are "no live bait" this includes worms. One of my favorites is The Horns Pond in the Bigelows. Don't get caught without a license if you are carrying fishing gear. Have fun! WETSU

Cooper Brook Lean to in Maine. Caught about 6 brown trout, good size.
This topic is a sore point with me. I hiked from Andover to MT K a few years ago, carrying fishing gear and a $50 out of state fishing permit. Sure there were a lot of ponds and streams, but the wind was blowing too hard to cast. On one lake that I got on with a canoe I did lots of casting but do you think that I caught any fish? No.
The crowning insult of the story is that when I go to the grocery store, they have 16" trout, bigger than I could ever imagine catching, for about $3.00 each. Others may have better luck, but for my money I've fished my last on the AT.

Here in Maine I usually don't fish for trout after the end of June unless I am in the far northern parts of Maine. A hundred miles or more from the AT where the waters are cooler and less fished.

I strongly suspect that they were Brook Trout. Caught several there myself using a Tom Sawyer rig.
