I wonder the same about a lot of things on this site. I believe Whiteblaze is easily the best place to glean useful information about the trail, but somethings it defies logic.

He was taking a long walk with a lot of ups and downs. Sounds like a hiker to me. Sorry he didn't make it. :(

+1. I've seen MUCH more irrelevant posts on this site.

Hell, the Cafe has nothing to do with the trail and its far and way the most popular thread on WB.

This is in the "other trails" forum so that seems appropriate.

If all posts had to be about the AT and had to be relevant then 90% of the posts here could disappear.

Agreed. Answer: Post it in the Café next time.

While the guy from the story might of been a great guy, he died in a DUMB way.... walking WITH traffic, on the shoulder of a highway, while dribbling a soccer ball !!! it almost sounds like a skit from saturday night live!! im just waiting to hear he had headphones on blasting Metallica , while eating a chipotle burrito! ......basic running 101 says you go against traffic so you have some idea whats coming..... im sure some hikers will say they walked with traffic while tryin to hitch a ride, but that's a little different, you were watching for traffic.

I don't mind postings about stories like this...he was a hiker....good enough for me. Shame though

OK. Read the article. Made it to Oregon from Seattle. Should have taken PCT maybe.

Anyway, here is what he was doing it for...

I didn't think about the pct, but that would of been a lot better idea. safer anyways.

Dang. I remember a guy posting on a hiker website/blog asking for advice on gear. He said he was going to kick a soccer ball from Seattle to Brazil....
