We're doing the 27-mile section between NOC and Winding Stair this weekend. Would appreciate advice regarding

whether to go NOBO or SOBO
parking/shuttle options
hostel recommendations (late evening arrival, trail next morning)

NOBO. I personally would rather hike DOWN into the NOC (great food and hot showers at the end), than UP from the NOC on a SOBO.

I'm hiking from Mooney Gap to the NOC next weekend (Memorial Day). Have done this section many times. You will have a blast. Happy hiking. :)

Thank you, twosticks - can't call you "daddy", since you're only 1 year older than me!
We'll clear the spider webs for you as we go through.

NOBO. That climb south out of NOC was not a happy one. Dragging an unhappy 13 year old might have had something to do with it, of course. :)

You can leave a car at NOC. You can stay in the bunkhouse (small 4-bunk rooms mostly.) Check with Jeff and Nancy at The Hike Inn for a shuttle (you can stay there the night before, too.) Or call Ron Haven in Franklin to see if he can recommend a shuttler. I can recommend the restaurant at NOC for after the hike.
