Why did Volunteers have to do the work? Why couldn't these jack@$$'s get out there and do the repair themselves?

Any idea how they were caught? Sounds like the case was pretty solid.

Would you trust these guys to do it right?

Good point. Well taken. They are probably too stupid to learn to use a rake.

Yeah, if they're going to be conscripted into performing community service, let them pick up trash, or scrub graffiti off of trail shelters.

I was very pleased to see that the Appalachian 4x4 club was part of the crew that cleaned it up. It wasn't they're fault per se (I believe I recall reading somewhere that none of their members were at fault) but they were out there helping to make it right anyway. Stand up thing to do.

$450 doesn't sound like enough. That plus confiscation of their four-wheelers, maybe.

I agree. Auction off the vehicles to help offset the cost of restoration.

Unfortunately this is not an option under current federal law.

Total estimated cost of restoration = $5,000

11 people fined $400 each = $4,400

3 more people expected to be charged at $400 each = $1,200

Looks like the damages were considered when the fine amount was determined.

Not enough thou. Punishment should have included a 4x4 driving suspension. That would have hurt the perps more than the money.

It's possible they're first offenders. With luck they'll find somewhere more appropriate to play in the future.

Now that's cool. I was about to say I wish I could do something like that on my birthday and then I remembered...I was hiking up near Humpback Rocks on my birthday. Not as good a view for sure but still a cool way to spend a birthday.

Unfortunately this is not an option under current federal law.

Too bad!!! Under too many current statutes, entirely innocent family members can have their property confiscated just because some dumbass grandson or whomever is caught with drugs while operating the vehicle, etc.

So, if a totally innocent grandma on a fixed income can lose her only car, I think these guilty idiots should lose their "entertainment" vehicles.

I'm grateful for the work of the volunteers and like others, feel that the vandals got off too easily.
