Hi all! Does anyone know whether you can access the AT by the FAA radio tower on top Snowbird Mountain, or at Deep Gap a couple miles north of there towards Max Patch? I am trying to help my father finish section-hiking the NC portion of the trail but he is not sure he can make the Snowbird climb and then get all the way to Brown Gap in a day. Thanks in advance!

Yes, if you can get to the FAA tower then its a short blue blaze (or no blaze) down the hill to intersect with the AT. Maybe 100 yards.

Sorry, I don't recall Deep Gap.

It's a fun drive to the top.

Thanks for the info--do you need 4WD to get up there?

Negatory. Just a little bit more than regular clearance and a strong motor. Your radiator will be banging by the time you reach the top. There was one spot where I had to back up and try again.
