Hi,
I'm doing the AT as a series of day hikes. This is difficult for a 'mature' guy like me when a section is long with no early exits. One of these is VT Section 8 at 22.6 miles or 20.6 miles using FS Rd. 71. With some research and local knowledge I discovered that there is a wood road off Rt. 9 that goes nearly to Little Pond. I hired a young man with a big truck to ferry me in. From the end of the road it is an easy 15 minute bushwhack to the trail near Little Pond Lookout. This broke the section into six mile and 16 mile pieces that were doable. I'll be glad to provide more information if anyone is interested.
