I saw the rank and was afraid you'd gotten demoted to an officer.

Also got your name wrong under the photo. Kind of makes you wonder how accurate things are when you don't know the truth. :)

Just got back from the opening ceremony. I met Youngblood and Hikerhead as well as seeing Little Bear, Hatman and Happyfeet there. I also met some WhiteBlaze lurkers.

There were about 100 people in attendance and the ceremony lasted about 1 hour. Then we got to do some group day hikes and then we returned to Rattler Ford for dinner and visiting with the others that came - not all of them were BMT members, but people that had heard about the trail opening. We talked about some work trips for the future and Little Bear came up with a good idea for the forum: something like a cross between Want To Buy and a Hiker Hook Up forum where trail maintainers and organizations can post info on volunteer calls for trail maintenance and work trips.

Personally I think it is a good idea. I've found that most people would like to help, but don't know how to get started; it would be a good way to help facilitate that. I also think more people would become trail maintainers if they tried it, they just need to get bit by the bug.

I probably wouldn't have attended a work trip if I hadn't been invited on one. I'm sure glad I was. It is so rewarding to maintain trail. Since it's volunteer work everyone is glad to see you and however you can contribute is appreciated. We'll be watching for this new feature!
