I am going on a 54 mile section hike and my old tent is shot to heck. Any recommendations?

Buy a new one / borrow one from a friend / invest in a hammock system / use a tarp / stay in shelters / sleep cowboy style.

If I were looking at tents I'd probably start with a tarp tent of some kind. They seem light, simple and there are some really well respected makers out there... But personally I have switched to hammocking and don't see myself ever going back. If you want to research that possibility I'd recommend visiting HammockForums.Net.

Thanks. Looking at a couple of options now.

Six Moon Designs - Skyscape Trekker is an affordable, 24oz shelter that reviews say can fit 2. Not tarp style, but for function vs. weight, seems to be a good value. That is assuming you favor a more traditional tent style or want to host a companion. For solo trips, I have to give it up to hammocks. The versatility they offer is unmatched.
