Just curious, anyone ever use or see one of these? The thing only weighs like 2oz. I may be purchasing a kayak soon and either way I was looking for an UL collapsible rod/reel for backpacking. It only stretches to 3ft, so I was curious how casting would be and whether or not the reel is decent. I wouldn't be using a whole lot, but maybe just to supplement my dinner with some stream trout. I just thought with the weight and volume it might be a cool little tool. Lemme know, thanks!

I carry the Shakespeare Travel Mate Telescoptic from Bass Pro. Think I paid about 35 bucks for it a few years ago. It has held up well even with my 7 year old using it regularly. Collapses down to about 10 or 12 inches. Take a look at it..

I've carried a little 28" ice fishing pole (ugly stick 4 eyes) with a micro no name reel...works just fine.
but also have a threre piece travel rod (ugly stick) with a Mitchel reel...and oldie that still works great.
Penn reels are pretty darn good, that's what I use on my surf outfit..695 I think???

The add says Pen, not Penn.

I'm betting the 2 ounces is just the rod, not the reel that comes with it.

I have a Tankara (http://www.tenkarausa.com/product_info.php/products_id/35) fly rod with no reel. Good for the small streams and such in the mountains, but not for the rivers. Weight is 3 or 4 oz, and mine is a 13' pole. Amazon has cheaper ones that are knockoffs but just fine.

Here's a couple pics of my set-ups. The cased Shakespeare "Ugly Stick" 4 piece rod weighs 1.8 lbs, and without the case...who knows...not very much for a full length rod....many choices good out there for a pack rod. Happy Fishing :)2186721866218682186921865

The ice fishing pole w/micro reel is all but negligible in weight...all but.
