I have been section hiking for 10 of the past dozen or more years, mostly in August. I am now at Carver Gap, TN, and will again be hiking south in August. (Yes, I know it will be hot and water will not be plentiful). Last summer, I hiked 320 miles in 19 days. I averaged 17 miles a day, with my highest mileage of about 21 miles per day. I backpack with a tent, don't spend much time in towns and send myself mail drops for supplies. I enjoy nature and the solitude of the trail, but I also like to spend nights with other hikers. I'm thinking about trying to finish the trail -- 386 miles (including the hike off Springer Mountain) in about 23 days. Who else plans to be out on that section of the trail in August?
