I am trying to figure out what I should carry in a bounce box for my southbound hike as well as how far forward I should bounce it forward every time. I can't see carrying much in it and I definitely do not want to mess with it much but want it fairly accessible if I need to get to it. Suggestions?

You could start out with every other supply town at first & if you don't need stuff in it & it's shipped via priority mail "if you don't take possession of it" forward it for free. After a month or so you will have it pretty much dialed in as what you will need when.

I try to get my bounce box every couple of weeks.

If you have someone for support, call and have them ship Priority Box. Usually receive in three days.
Unless you have some very special needs that can not be brought in towns along the way a bounce box is a waist of time and money. The establishments in trail towns are well aware of hiker needs so you can get what you need along the way.
You don't need a bounce box. They're more trouble than they're worth IMHO.
Start without one and if you find there are that you really need on occasion that you don't want to carry then just get a Priority box from the PO and send it up the trail.
