The race started Yesterday from Oceanside CA, the RAAM (Race Across America) is a 3,000 mile bicycle race and Ray "Wall" Greenlaw, who once held the PCT speed record, is in the over 50 solo class.
Amazing race which is NOT a stage race, the racers sleep when they want to and have a crew.
Racers MUST finish the race in 12 days.
The winners will do it in about 7 I believe and some go the first 3 or 4 days without sleeping from what Ray told me.
You can follow the race here: http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/raam/rcrank.php?s_N_category_group=1&s_N_Race_ID=1&N_webcat_id=1

There are also relay teams.
I posted this because a lot of you know Ray from his AT '95 hike and PCT speedhike in 2003.
He is an amazing athlete and once summited Mt Whitney and 5 days later, came here to Thailand and came in 10th in the Phuket, marathon!

I met him on the AT in '95 and he got me interested in the more extreme sports.
Anyway, they are now less than 24 hours into this amazing race.

I'm following Maria Parker, an amazing athlete from NC who is also racing solo.

Best wishes for a safe race for riders and crews.
