Best place to pick up back country camping permits

The map on the SNP website is out of date. It still shows Panorama as a place to pick up a back country camping permit. Where are the best places to pick up a permit, especially near Thornton Gap?

And, on the drive up to the entrance station, you'll find a walk-up box with back-country permits. As you approach the pay windows, the box is just off the road on your right.
If the box is empty (as it was for me), try to flag down any ranger (as I ended up doing).

There is no charge for the self-registration permits. You attach one part to your gear and leave the other in the registration box.
