We all talk about the greatest place on the trail to stay at. What are the worst? You know, the places that are falling down all aound you? What are the worst hostels/hotels on the trail?

My mind thought we were going to have thread about Brown Blazing.

I first thought it would be a thread about illegal roadside trash dumps.
Either one would be ugly, and stinky.

In most cases its not the hostel thats the problem but the inhabitants! Entitled hikes that steal toilet paper from the restrooms and food and drinks from honor system areas. Also stayed at one where fellow hikers were drunk and screaming all night until they again woke me up in the middle of the night--throwing up and dry heaving outside the room. These types have total disreguard for the owners property and others interest.
This said---yes I realize there are 100 hikers that are total class for everyone one of these entitled hiker types.

When I stayed the night at Jim Murray's "secret shelter" (which is certainly not a dump), I had a moment of catharsis that practically filled his outhouse. That's my biggest dump on the trail to date.

A couple years ago I hiked NY and NJ with my buddy during which a mild case of trail trail trots left him without control of his bowels. To this day, my favorite trail quote is from when I walked around a corner and found him just off trail with his pants around his ankles wiping furiously. When he saw me the first thing he said was "Dave, I think I left a trace!"

I usually just go right on the trail and then cover it with sunflower seed shells.

Found this little beauty on ....

Hiker Trash Confessions (http://www.facebook.com/HikerTrashConfessions?hc_location=timeline)

May 19

After taking a crap on the CDT I smeared it all over a rock, it was the weirdest thing, and took on a look...so I called upon my artistic side, when I finished it looked just like "Little Richard"....I signed it and split. So now every time I go to take a crap, I tell my buddy "I'm going to take a "Little Richard" he laughs and say's "ok". Should I tell him I'm a duodenum bandit painter

The Doyle is certainly a dump, but it's a quaint kind of dump that thru-hikers appreciate.

My vote for the worst shelter/dump goes to the William Brien shelter in NY. I only stopped there for a lunch break but you couldn't pay me to sleep in that thing.
