With a little inspiration this morning from Rocketsocks in the WB Cafe, I browsed a list of Foxworthy quotes and found several that might apply to a broad range of hikers! Which ones are you proud to admit to? Feel free to confess your guilt and/or add to the list. :p
1. Birds are attracted to your beard.
2. Your wife's job requires her to wear an orange vest.
3. You've ever given rat traps as gifts.
4. You clean your fingernails with a stick.
5. Your wife can climb a tree faster than your cat.
6. You've ever been involved in a custody fight over a hunting dog.
7. You've ever stolen toilet paper.
8. You have ever bar-b-qued Spam on the grill.
9. Going to the bathroom at night involves shoes and a flashlight.
10. You consider a six-pack and a bug-zapper high-quality entertainment.
11. You think the best way to keep things cold is to leave 'em in the shade.
12. You consider "Outdoor Life" deep reading.
13. You think that beef jerky and Moon Pies are two of the major food groups.
14. You consider pork and beans to be a gourmet food.
15. You have to go down to the creek to take a bath.
16. You think the Mountain Men in deliverance were just "Misunderstood".
17. Three quarters of the clothes you own have LOGOS on them.
18. You've ever picked up a woman in a convenience store.

Guilty of 7, 9, 11 and 15.....but I spent lots of time as a kid on scout reservations....LOTS of time.

i come from a long line of moonshiners, and proud of it

i play banjo, not that new fangled scruggs style, ol timey clawhammer y'all

when yankees offend me (often, with redneck jokes) i spit a huge wad of tobacco juice just to watch them turn green

my family tree is a twisted vine, my great grandparents were cousins

i wear overalls.... to church

my tractor runs like a dream, my pickup too

all in good fun, i know that. maybe next week i'll start a thread. "how hillbillies really feel about city folks coming into the hills" or "stupid things yankees say to southerners"

I would think a lot of Thru Hikers could claim #1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 (OK, maybe 18 ;) )

what's this got to do with the AT?

what's this got to do with the AT?

everything. it's about leaving our hoity-toity standards behind when we get on the trail (wish i'd made that more clear from the start).

A variation of 11: I put beer in the creek when I go fishing to keep it cold.

I'm with max patch- I haven't done any of them.

Oh see there... she did tell us how it's related to the AT.

love your post, hill ape! my redneck pedigree is not so impressive as yours, but i think we might be related. ;)

(psssst! the real reason for the thread is so the hikers-from-the-big-city crowd can admit to their redneck behaviors, and then we can all be rednecks, you know, togetherness and all that stuff.)

It's in discussions.....you need to get permission to access it...join the group. It took me a bit to figure it out, but it's there, safe and sound and somewhat accessible.

Some people use this term as a slur and some people embrace it. I see the attempt at making it hiking related. Sometimes people make attempts to bring non-AT subjects into the forums through tenuous hikers/trail connections. Do us a favor and just put it into Non-AT General, the forum set aside for non-hiking topics. Thanks.

I didn't move and did close this one because there are issues with the usage and its not really hiking related.
