I'm a new hiker and am looking to do a two day hike in the AT around the Pembroke virgins area next week. I want to hike and camp one day and how and leave the next. I'm thinking maybe an out and back hike unless I can find someone to pick me up.

Has anyone here hiked that area and what advice can you give a new AT hiker as far as supplies, camping tips, best way to go from the Pembroke area?

Thanks!
Greg

You should consider parking your car Pearisburg and hike South. You will start with a big climb then it's about 7 miles along the ridge top to Doc's knob shelter which is a good place to sleep. The next day it's only a few miles to Sugar Run Gap. Turn left at the road then a hundred yards later take the fork to the left. A half mile later on the right is Woodshole Hostel 540 921 3444, they have a web page www.woodsholehostel.com (http://www.woodsholehostel.com). They can arrange a shuttle back to your for a reasonable price.

Also, thanks for being able to understand my phones auto-typo since I didn't proofread.
