Has Google Earth been discussed here? I haven't seen it, but I've been in-and-out this summer.

If not, Google Earth is an entertaining mapping download. Lots of geo-data, etc. Fun to play with.

Get it here:
http://earth.google.com/

I found this link to RockyRaccoon's file that places the AT shelters listed on the ATC's geo-data download. More fun.

After installing Google Earth Just click on "Open this Placemark" right under the thread title "The Entire Appalachian Trail!!"

BTW, you seem to need pretty good bandwidth for Google Earth to work well.

I have broadband but My PC is just too old. It's really time for me to upgrade.

I just scrolled through a hike I did in Sequoia/Kings Canyon. Nice.
