View Full Version : Your favorite white blazes

I love to take pictures when I hike. That might be part of the reason I am so slow. Whenever possible I like for my pictures to include a white blaze. What are some of your favorite pictures that include a white blaze or something that identifies the pic as having been taken on the AT? Some of you may recognize the location.

I really like this one. Of course, I only saw about five more before I saw one of my favorites 30 miles away next to the passageway at Neel Gap. (Seriously--is there a shortage of white paint in Georgia?)

A few with angry/sad face blazes on climbs would be funny/fitting.

I took this in the summer of 2012 decending from Blood Mtn in GA. There are tons of blazes on the trail in GA, you just were not looking. https://sphotos-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/425511_4310479642461_1432867373_n.jpg

They aren't white, but I don't see any photos of the bronze AT plaques on the sidewalk through Hot Springs, NC.
Come to think of it, I guess Mrs. Wayne and I are official AT section hikers. We "hiked" the entire section of the AT from The Diner (do not fail to eat at The Diner) to the Hot Springs Resort Store (full of ice cream & candy & cookies) round trip. Twice! And two laps around the entire village of Hot Springs.
No, we didn't take any pictures of the AT markers. Bummer.

I tend to be a fan of blazes painted on rocks. There is one on a large boulder on Cove Mt just south of Duncannon. The boulder is on the left side of the trail and the blaze is on the far left side of the boulder. I thought this was strange and someone explained to me that the boulder used to be on the right side of the trail but that the water washed it across the trail. Must have been quite a storm!

Another personal favorite of mine is the first white blaze I see when I feel like I've been walking for a long time without seeing one.

I have a bunch of pictures of white blazes as I'm sure that we all do but my favorite is still the one of my baby girl's first steps on the AT.

I like it. You should design your own "2000 footer" badges, or create your own "Diner to Resort" trail and call it a thru hike. Better yet, a yo-yo! :) I've not been there, but it looks like you can find the plaques on Google Maps Street View. Is this one?

Only in the opinion of self appointed authorities. Cheating is taking steroids to get the most homeruns. Hiking the path you want, the way you want, in the time you want is not cheating.
