CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (AP) - The family of a Tennessee woman who went missing while hiking the Appalachian Trail in western Maine last month is returning home, but not giving up hope.
Meanwhile, the Maine Warden Service said the search for 66-year-old Geraldine Largay of Brentwood, Tennessee, will continue.
Largay's husband, George, and daughter, Kerry Bauchiero, returned home on Tuesday to plan a memorial service.
The public memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12 at 9 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic church in Johns' Creek, Georgia. The church is located just outside Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerry Largay's honor to either of two organizations, the Nature Conservancy, an organization long near and dear to Mrs. Largay, and the Maine Association of Search and Rescue.
George Largay told WMTW-TV (http://bit.ly/15D8XhF) that his wife was well-prepared for the arduous hike, which he said was on her bucket list. She had read multiple books and planned meticulously.
He had been following in his car and had last seen her on July 21 near the town of Rangeley.
Largay's daughter thanked Maine law enforcement and volunteers for their efforts in finding her mother.
