I'm planning a section hike from Pearisburg to Harpers Ferry in October. Thought I'd post the "game plan" and see if anyone has any comments/advice to share. I need to be at the Harpers Ferry Amtrak the morning of 11/1 or 11/3 to make connections for the return home. Anyone know if there is a reliable place to re-supply between Glasgow and Waynesboro...and between Waynesboro and Front Royal? The yellow highlight in the location cells is where I plan to re-supply, grey highlight is where I may take some down time if the knees are acting up, hopefully starting out slow to let them aclimate will help. Thanks.

Outside of this store (http://www.montebellova.com/country_store.htm) in Montebello near The Dutch Haus, nothing close at all. I you could push on to Rt. 60 I would be glad to bring you into Buena Vista. I would also be glad to pick you near Punchbowl Shelter if that would help. There is a pick up point a couple hundred yards on the west side as well as on the BRP crossing on the east side.

Thanks for the offer DH, I can carry the supplies for that stretch okay, just didn't want to if I didn't need to.

This is reasonable mileage. I did a similar time through this section. You might need a zero in Waynesboro

Waynesbor is great place for zero day! Very hiker friendly free shuttles from Rockfish to town!
Also might add alnmg with the amtrak in Harper's Ferry there is a commuter train that leaves in early am for DC

The commuter train only runs on weekdays.

Alright no one else will say it, so I'll be the "bad guy".

Are you sure you can do 16-18mile days to start?
I did Bland to Catawba back in May, and that 16.8 from Niday to 4-pines was really tough. I'm 41 and in 10k running shape.
Definately look into extending your first day another 5 if your have the daylight and camp on Symms Gap Meadow, but be cognizant of where the wind is blowing as I got very chilly up there in my hammock. That will cut your 2nd day down to a more managable distance.

I had planned to take Amtrak to Union Staion and catch a bus to Christiansburg, 50 minutes between Amtak arrival and Megabus departure, Amtrak on time is 53%, decided to pay $18 more and take a shuttle.

It wont be a problem as long as the knees dont completely fail, 16-18 is an easy day if the knees aren't hurting and locked up, have done 20-24 when they were but it's no fun.

I hiked this section at the end of my 1,000 mi hike in 2010. It was very cold and very wet for days on end. Just a heads up.............
