$2,000 a night gets you high thread count sheets, flatscreen TV, champagne, an indoor bathroom so you "don't have to pee in the woods," and.... a tent.

For 2 grand for me to sleep in a tent, it better be a 2man one that they figured out how to put 4 budweiser girls in.

Too funny.

I wonder what one can see through a telescope in NYC? Isn't there a lot of light pollution?

I think you can spend that much at some of the African Luxury Safari Camps, but at least you get a real jungle instead of an urban jungle.

Did anyone see the Oprah episode when Oprah and Gayle were camping in Yosemite. At one point, Oprah yells "Gayle, where's the truffle oil?" That one made me laugh.

Lol. I have friends at work who go glamping. But for $2,000 a night, after 10 nights you could have bought a used tag or 5th wheel and glamped all you wanted, including your high thread count sheets, champagne, satellite tv, stereo AND the telescope :p

I'll take the trail and my tarp, thanks. But T.S.K. could convince me to kayak...

Something to ponder - just a generation or so ago, our hearty outdoor heroes would probably shake their heads in amazement at the things we take for granted today as camping "basics".

Lewis & Clark, John Muir, and even Earl Shaeffer would be amazed at the lightweight gear, neoair sleeping pads, electronic gadgets, etc. we camp with nowadays. Not to mention those lazy hut and hostel hoppers among us :D

it's just glamping

is this thing runby the amc?

very possibly, since we've already determined the AMC exists solely to cater to the rich and foolish ;)

For $2k I could afford a whole new gear setup AND the plane ticket to get wherever I wanted. And have some left over to donate to the local trail club. So give it to me - I'll put it to better use.

It's funny that when we first saw a hut the first thing that popped into our mind was "Glamping." You get hot water, running water (no shower though), a bunk with a mattress and a pillow, two meals, entertainment and lounging areas all for just a bit over $100. Given that, I expect much more for my $2,000. Otherwise, that had better be a really, really good bottle of champagne ;)

A sherpa only costs you $1100 a month:

If you can hike fast enough, you could load up the guy with all your gear and get all the way from the Whites to Katahdin in that period of time :-?

Imagine, heading up the last rocky pitch of the day, to be greeted with a glass of bubbly and your tent all pitched and made ready for snoozeville!! They'd probably even wash your smelly socks, too!
