I know for sure there's reliable, treatable water at and just after Gifford State Park, Chateaugauy, VT 12 and Profret Rd.

the likely dry spot is Happy Hill Shelter, so fill up at one of the above

I was just over most of the trail last weekend. No water issues from US 4 to Podunk Rd. You can read my report here: http://www.backpackingengineer.com/blog.php/31

Just finished sobo from hanover to rutland. all of the sources noted in the AT guide were producing and there were additional sources running here and there. I stayed at Winturri shelter one night and the source there was meager but workable. mud is mostly gone as of this past tuesday.

Just nobo'd from mad tom notch to Maine junction last week...... I know this is south of the stretch you're talking about but all of the water sources were running pretty well except Greenwall shelter (which seems to be the norm at least every time I'm there).
