It's not Darlington Shelter and it's not in New Jersey. Good guesses - keep trying!

It is (obviously) an old-style shelter but no, it's not the old Carter Gap Shelter.

Looks like Deer Park Mountain shelter to me,,, I believe that's the one,,,,,,,, whichever one I'm thinking of,, it's approx. 4 miles south of Hot Springs, NC. Where's my prize!!! :clap I'm sounding pretty cocky, & I'm not even 100% sure.

If you look closely, you'll see that the type of trees surrounding the shelter are not typical of NC except for the very higher elevations.

Looks like it's a shelter in some state park. The layout of the half sawn logs in front scream state park and there appears to be a picnic table in the background. Is this shelter on trail? or do you have to take a blue blaze side trail to get to it?

It's not Gifford Woods State Park Shelter and you're correct, the shelter is not "on trail"

Doesn't look much like Pickle Branch to me, although that is half a mile off the AT is south central Virginia.

Umm...I know I'm not eligible, but I'm also stumped.
Is it on an old section of AT in a certain New England state that's now blue-blazed?

Hi Deb - the reason you're not eligible is because you know where I've been in the last 2 weeks.

And that's where the shelter is from.

And since you're not eligible, I won't answer your question!;)

So it's a shelter not in the AT system. Whoppee. Some trivia question.

Stockholm, Sweden;)

I was vacationing in Scandinavia and visited Stockholm for a few days. My wife was with me so no hiking on this trip! Anyway, we were touring Skansen, a massive open air museum in Stockholm depicting Scandinavian life for the last several centuries; sort of a amalgamation of Colonial Williamsburg, Sturbridge Village, Shelburne Museum etc.

I came upon this structure and was immediately struck by how similar it was to many AT shelters, at least some of the old-style ones. Surprisingly, there were no labels or signs by it but I believe it represented a shelter where hunters and/or woodsmen would stay. Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone on WhiteBlaze would recognize it.

And I'm ready to return to Scandinavia after finishing the AT, this time for some hiking!:)
