Looking for a new set of trekking poles my first pair just gave put after two years of solid use, surprised that they lasted that long being from Walmart and all. But any who looking for suggestions on new poles, not to interested in the anti-shock models but open to suggestions. Looking for light weight but still reliable under $125.

Check out Black Diamonds series of Z-Poles. They have almost every option except antishock. Costs range from $65 to $170.

I have the Distance FL Z-Poles and highly recommend them

And while I agree with Rasty on quite a few things, the Z-poles are not one of them. Not sturdy enough, based upon my son's experience with them last year. Of course, I do not know how big Rasty is, relative to myself or my son, nor how rough he is on the poles.

I do like Black Diamond poles overall, and have a pair of the Alpine Carbon Corks, as well as some of their basic Trail poles. I haven't tried out the Contour Elliptics yet, but they look quite good, and the physics are sound.

And it is a good thing. Those chicken ankles would not support much more.

That could certainly explain it. My son might have gotten down close to 160 after his body cannibalized much of his upper body muscle on his thru, but his natural weight is in the 190s. I don't expect to see below 200 until I begin to decompose, lol.

I've used the Exped Alpine 125 for three years now and like them. 13 oz for the pair. Locking groove on the twist lock so it can't slip once tightened. It's a three section so it fits on my pack without overhang. Moosejaw has them for $99. http://www.exped.com/exped/web/exped_homepage_na.nsf/0/26E8E688ABA67074C125767E00705EE5?opendocument

I love my Z-poles. Picked them up for $69 on sale at REI, and have had no issues with them. I am 5'8" and weigh 210 lbs, so I do put a lot of stress on them at times.

If he used Wallyworld poles for two years of solid use then the Z-Poles should be adequate.

The 2012 Version Distance FL Pole is $77.97 at Black Diamond

I also must rave about the Exped Alpine 125. I have used them now for over two years and they have held up fine. They are extremely light and have great costumer service.
