Might be too much fat in that to keep well after rehydrating. The fat would go rancid quickly.

Nope. Can't say that I have. You'd have to cut those chunks up pretty small to get them to rehydrate into something that's not hard/chewy. That meat is pretty weirdly squishy so maybe it would work?

Well,,just a thought. I would like some good freezer bag meals kinda like that. Stew, hamburger helper type stuff.

Why would you want to? You could make your own stew for little effort and have full control.

If you are looking for a "beef" dish that dehydrates and rehydrates easily, try doing a pot of home-made chilli. Good eating! :)

Hamburger, sautéed thoroughly with the grease drained well, dehydrates acceptably (http://www.backpackingchef.com/dehydrating-meat.html). Make the rest of the stew ingredients with Harmony House veggies, herbs, spices, and cornstarch to thicken the gravy. With cornstarch as the thickener, you'll have to heat it tp boiling in the pot, because the starch doesn't thicken properly in a freezer bag cozy.

Everything will come out cut finer than you'd expect in a stew at home, but you need to do it that way for things to rehydrate adequately. It'll still taste like stew.

To the original It can be done but why? first off those big chunks are too big and there are better sources of stew available. Dehydrating a can will over cook and be tasteless.

What you are suggesting is shortcuts to make it lighter and to be honest - the results would be frustrating.
