The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is holding a membership drive (http://appalachiantrail.org/promo/2013-membership-drive---journey-of-2000-miles/overview) this fall by showing the A.T. film "Appalachian Impressions" in 15 locations--a mix of East Coast cities and A.T. Communities.
For $30, you will get a reduced-price ATC membership and admission to the event. (There's also a $2.50 processing fee). The film by "Carolina Cruiser" is two hours long, and each film will have a featured speaker (or speakers) (http://appalachiantrail.org/promo/2013-membership-drive---journey-of-2000-miles/guest-speakers) who will give a short talk beforehand. It's really fun to see an A.T. film on the big screen with a roomful of other A.T. enthusiasts, and money raised will help protect and manage the A.T.
The purpose of the film showings is to recruit new ATC members and garner more support for the A.T., so if you are a current member and would like to attend, you will need to buy a gift membership for someone else (but hey, it's $10 off!)
