Hi Folks,

Generally, what is the availability of shops that sell seeds on the AT?

Specifically, do you know of any trail towns that have shops that sell seeds?

The seeds that I am interested in are:

Chia, Flak, Hemp, Pumpkin, Sesame and Pumpkin Seeds - http://www.trueactivist.com/the-top-10-healthiest-seeds-on-earth/ - for further information.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Flax(flak), pumpkin(also called pepitas in some places in the U.S.), sunflower, and sesame are found quite readily. Flax is a little harder to find. Sesame seed, both roasted and RAW, can be found in most grocery stores in the Spice aisle. Trying to regularly find RAW pepitas or sunflower seeds is harder. Chia(or Saba as it's also called in some parts of the U.S.) is the hardest one to find on your list. Find the pepitas(pumpkin seed and sunflower with the other nuts or trail mixes in U.S. grocery stores.

From your link, if interested in those other seeds you'd probably be best off bounce boxing an airtight bag of those seeds. You're not going to find apricot seeds, pomegranate seeds, and grape seed near the AT. It would be a VERY long shot to find them! MAYBE, pomegranate seeds at some grocery stores in the produce section but still a very long shot. Also on your list is hemp seed(no you don't get high by eating it and it doesn't sprout plants!) is super nutritious and available in resealable pouches and sometimes from bulk bins in stores like Whole Foods, Nutiva, Manitoba, Nutivas, and Vitacost are all reliable suppliers of hemp seed and hemp protein powder that are sold in resealable pouches you can put into a bounce box. You'll often get all those seeds listed in your posts(and more!) at Whole Foods too in the U.S. I regularly include, chia, hemp, pepirtas, sunflower, etc in my trail foods as well as the others in your post.

You might be interested in sprouting your own seeds as you hike as they are also super nutritious LIVING foods. It's real easy! Sprouted seed sometimes is twice as nutritious as the unsprouted seed!

Whole Foods in Charlottesville, VA is one half hour East of Rockfish Gap on I-64. They've got most of what you seek.
