View Full Version : Parking at Big Creek Ranger Station during shutdown
Have a section hike planned in the park in a few days so I am hastily formulating a "Plan B" and desperately need to know if parking at the Big Creek Ranger Station is still available during this federal debacle, or is the lot gated?

Gated and highway cones up at the Park entrance.
All day hiking, section hiking and/or overnight camping is not allowed withing the GSMNP boundries.
Thanks for the info. Was actually planning to head north from Davenport using the ranger station for parking, but I guess now I'll have to come up with a Plan C.

Options:
1. Do not park at I-40....north or south of it.
2. North of I-40 on Green Corner Rd there's a pulloff about 1 mile from start of Green Corner where the AT crosses to continue North to Hot Springs. That's safe.
3. Park at Standing Bear, but call ahead.
4. Finishing at Hot Springs? Park there and have Bluff Mtn. shuttle you to D-gap etc.
Your excellent suggestions are very similar to the options I'm now exploring. So, once again, thanks for the advice!
