Trail Crew Leader
Description
The Trail Crew Leader will supervise a volunteer trail crew in trail maintenance and construction projects for the Florida Trail Association (FTA). The Crew Leader is responsible for coordinating with the FTA crews’ supervisor on the design, implementation and evaluation of trail projects as well as safely supervising the crew in all aspects of their work. This is a full-time, temporary, seasonal position with no fringe benefits. Two trail crew leader positions are being offered.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate with FTA staff to identify trail projects and help plan for their implementation.
• Assist in all aspects of crew member orientation and training.
• Directly supervise crew members in a variety of trail projects.
• Have a working knowledge and comply with all FTA policies and procedures
• Manage all logistics for each assigned trail crew including transportation, housing, meals, equipment and supplies. Requires significant amounts of travel throughout Florida.
• Assist the Crews Supervisor with program management including but not limited to budget management and reconciliation.
• Manage all aspects of FTA Safety and Risk Management protocols.
• Facilitate building an environment that promotes teamwork between FTA staff, volunteers and agency partners.
• Represent FTA in a positive and professional manner.
• Coordinate with and report to Crews Supervisor to ensure full compliance with program standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• 21 years of age or older.
• Previous trail construction experience and the knowledge and ability to perform trail construction and maintenance work in a variety of ecosystems.
• Prior experience in supervising young adults in an outdoor, wilderness setting.
• Wilderness First Responder/CPR certification
• Good communication and leadership skills and strong work ethics are required.
• Able to carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds and be able to work in outdoor environment exposed to the elements including camping and hiking for extended periods of time.
• Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Have working knowledge of safely operating power and hand-tools.



Period of Employment
September 19th, 2005 – April 14th, 2006 (27 weeks) Note: There will be a three week non-paid break at the end of December and beginning of January

Compensation
Salary range: $9,720.00 to $10,260.00 for 27 week period. Housing and meals are provided. A vehicle will be provided to transport the crew for work purposes only.
