Ive been on the lookout for a 2.0 or 1.5L Evernew water bottle (the ones with the orange cap) for quite some time now but when I checked the websites of the usual suppliers, only AntiGravityGear still list them. They are of course, out of stock.

The other four vendors that carried them, no longer even list them as an offering. I checked TrailDesigns, Mountain Laurel Design, ProlightGear, and Gossamer Gear. None of them offer Evernew anymore.

Supply must be really terrible. Too bad. Those were the best bottles I've ever used.

I've wanted to get some myself... but the only place I can find them are sellers outside of the U.S. such as in Germany or Japan.

For now, I've just given up on them (in the short term). I've instead gotten a Platypus with a hydration hose. I'll cut the hose short and use it to connect a platypus to my new Sawyer Mini.

Well. If you wanted to pay $25 for them...

I am having a similar issue with Nalgene "soft" WIDE-MOUTH bottles. I hate using a hydration bladder, so I rigged up a system where I can carry the soft nalgenes in the water bottle pockets and still use a hydration hose for delivery. So I have the convenience of a bladder AND wide-mouthed bottles in one relatively lightweight system. However, Nalgene no longer seems to make the wide-mouth soft bottles, so whenever I happen to come across them (usually at little independent gear stores), I stock up.

Not sure if that is the same Japanese seller I previously saw... but for the longest time there was "only one left" being sold by an Amazon seller. Sure there was a bit of a premium attached, but give the terrific reviews the Evernew has been getting, I figured someone would have bought that one by now... sort of left me wondering.

I had read somewhere several months ago that the tsunami in Japan shut down the manufacturer

Hey Deacon, I have a 2L Evernew that I never use. Message me your address and I'll send it to you.

...

This seems to be for the 1500 mL size. Amazon isn't even listing the 900 mL size anymore (the one I want).

This was from their FB page in July, 2012:
"Evernew Water Carry will be back in Stock soon. Please check the retailers in a week or so. There has been a production issue but everything is back in Normal again!!"

Then after a year of no post on their page, they posted this on September 15th:
"Thanks for your patience everyone! We are trying our best to resolve our on going stock issue and hope to get product to our stores soon!"

I just sent an email to the company. Will let you know the results when and if they respond.

They have not responded to my email and I think they are out of business for the moment. (added 10/9/13)

The tsunami wiped out their factory two years ago and they are still trying to recover.

Once Sawyer worked out their issues with the bags for the Squeeze almost all of the cottage companies that brought them in stopped ordering them. In the first 48 hours after I posted (http://hikelighter.com/2012/03/06/sawyer-pointone-squeeze-water-filter-system/) that the Evernew bags worked on the Sawyer squeeze (back on August 23, 2012) the half-dozen companies that did have them sold out. It was estimated that a bit over $5,000 bucks worth of Evernew bags were sold in that 48 hour period. But, back in January of this year when Sawyer released their updated bags (http://hikelighter.com/2013/01/20/sawyer-squeeze-updated-2013-version/) most of the cottage companies felt the effort of dealing with Evernew was not worth it - they have issues getting stock into the USA due to the way they operate their business (both pre and post tsunami).

At this point most of us are just going with the Sawyer bags or the Platypus Soft bottle bags (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008W0I9UI/), which are still probably the finest soft bottles on the market. Neither of them are as tough as the Evernew bags are, but the Sawyer bags are not very far behind. Anybody who wants tough bags usually go with the MSR Hydromedary. The Hydrapack (http://www.hydrapak.com/) is pretty darn tough too, but a bit expensive and has not been accepted by the hiking community all that well, mostly due to their seemingly heavy weight.

The main reason I want the Evernew bottle is they fit the Sawyer filter. I can't tell you how many times my filter popped off my Platty bottle.

Check out this site. REI has them. On sale at CampSaver for $8.62. Just ordered 2 32oz using USPS Shipping for $6.95.

This is weird.

Someone told me the Platypus bag wouldn't fit the Sawyer threads, but after my second Sawyer bag de-laminated and popped, I bought a 1 liter platy and it seems to fit fine - even when I squeeze fairly vigorously.

Aren't they both just pop-bottle style threads?

Woo-hoo! They're back! But now I've amassed like 8 of them because I kept snatching them up whenever I could find them! And they're even back on the Nalgene site!!!

No. Platypus decided to do their own thing.
While the diameters seem to match, the angle of the threads on a Platypus are NOT the standard angle of pop-bottles.

The result is that you can at least start to twist a Platypus on a Sawyer filter. But the difference in angles will prevent you from twisting the platypus on by anything more than maybe one turn. The difference also makes it easy to "cross thread" them.

The result is that a Platypus MIGHT work with a Sawyer, but they are not designed to fit together.

[Edit]
If you want to test this, take a Platypus bottle and place the cap from a Sawyer squeeze bag on it. See if you can get a water tight seal.

Not sure if this changed with the new sawyer bags, but that is exactly what I used to seal off my Platypus reservoir on my hike this year. No leaking or any other problems there. Connecting the reservoir to the squeeze itself was a bit interesting, so I think you're right- if I tightened it too much it started to leak under pressure. Still no problems with the cap.

So I have the convenience of a bladder AND wide-mouthed bottles in one relatively lightweight system.I've been using the same configuration since 2004. My only issue is the fragility of these soft-sided bottles: I droppped full 48-ouncer from a top bunk of a White Mountains hut (not pretty), and another pierced another one in the first hour of my section hike climbing Wildcat when I tripped into a dead tree. If I can find a hydration tube that fits a Gatorade bottle I'd go that route.

Yikes, Kerosene!!!

I wonder if I originally got the idea for this set up from you back in the day? And although I haven't had any mishaps with the soft-sided Nalgenes, yet, I have had similar thoughts about finding a system that works with proper bottles.

I loved my Evernew 2L bladder.... until it started leaking at the seam and soaked all of my gear.
