I've had a 3-4 night trip planned to Shenandoah for months now, but it looks like the government shutdown is going to ruin my plans.

Can anyone suggest an alternate area? Is backcountry camping allowed at any Virginia State Park? Has anyone camped in a Virginia Wildlife Management Area?

With so many of us tied into Backpacker pro using Trimble outdoors your post gave me an idea to see if they were selling the data and there are apps for that. Recently a hiker asked me if there was hiking available in Las Vegas... and that is where I started to look stuff up and found several cool places with photos.

I use Backpacker pro and the could website offers many trips done by loads of people... the free stuff is on the Backpacker website with maps and suggestions.

Monongahela State Forest would be a place I would start.

I just hiked from Daleville, VA to Waynesboro, VA last week. It was a great section. You can follow my blog for a description of the area. I will be updating it daily over the next week. The first day's report is out now. http://www.backpackingengineer.com/blog.php/45
