I'm looking into quicker , easier , lighter set-ups for my new hennessy hammock. I've run across the term whoopee sling a couple of times but have no idea what it is.

You'll find all the information about whoopie slings at hammockforums.net. Or look on YouTube at Shug's videos (I believe under Shugemery) for his indepth hammock videos. Basically though whoopie slings are a suspension method using amsteel rope.
Im posting from my phone do I will post more a little later.

You would probably get a better answer at https://www.hammockforums.net/. There you can learn everything you could possibly want to know about hammocking and whoopie slings. I dont use them my self..but they seem kind of interesting.
so...what exactly is a woopy sling? A hanging chair made for having sex in. A medical device for holding one arm's in a sling after having rough sex. A sexual tryst. Wait that's a woopy fling.

I understand that the Whoopie Sling's inventor (or at least popularizer) goes by the trail name Opie, hence the name of the sling. "Who? Opie?"
His site is here. (http://www.whoopieslings.com/)

He's got a few dozen videos if not more, all very entertaining. He was with Ringling Brothers at one point, from what I've heard.

The videos on whoopieslings.com mostly appear to be his. (http://www.youtube.com/user/opie0074/videos)

I remember Shug now. I've met him on trail a couple of times and I think in trail towns. He had me in stitches a few times.

whoopie slings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whoopie_sling) have been around long before the were used on hammocks by arbores(tree cutters) and nautical uses. they were not named after opie:o i've made them and used them but have gone back to straps and cinch buckle (or descending rings). some have taken hammocking and made it a science or cult and make you think you need to be up on all the gizmos and things to be doing it right:rolleyes:. it's just hanging.

Thanks Kayak Karl--I'm just trying to figure out a way to make the set up quicker and possibly a little lighter so am looking in to all these things. cheers! thats why i went back to straps. dutch clips on one end and cinch on other. i can set up quicker, more spots (11' between atatchments) and can do it all with mittens on.
