We're thinking of shortening a 4-day SNP hike over Thanksgiving to a 2-day hike from Pearisburg to a convenient spot north of there. We do about 10 mpd, so Big Stony Creek Road (VA635) seems about right. If you are familiar with this area, please comment on the following:

Is VA635 a safe place to leave a vehicle?
Shuttle recommendation? I have this that I extracted from another thread months ago: Don @ 540-921-7433

Hey sweet thing.. I don't know anything about VA635. I've heard good things about Don Raines. I bet he could answer your question about the safety issue. Have fun!! :)

Sweet thing? Gosh, I'm blushing. :o
Thank you. I'll give him a call. Still trying to figure out which day we're gonna run up there. Gotta balance Thanksgiving dinner(s), daughter home from college, church activities, weather, etc, etc. It's all so COMplicated. :)

Have you thought about going southbound and leaving your vehicle in Pearisburg? I did that last spring using Don Raines shuttle. If he is still shuttling, I recommend him.
The ridge between Rice Field and Dismal Branch has no water. Also it borders West Virginia for a few miles.
