I have been researching front loading packs and it's frustrating just finding them, but then the ones I HAVE found all seem too small for a thru. Can anyone with experience with a front loading pack give some advice? I'm not looking for something with little zipper access points on the side, but a real front loader.

(I did notice that Jansport has reissued their D2 model, used that on the Grand Canyon when I was a teenager. Great front loading pack!)

Thanks, Glen

I carry a Deuter Air-Contact 60. It's heavier than some others, but I like the front-loading feature and the way air flows between me and the pack VERY MUCH!

I use an older Mountainsmith Ghost - a panel loader. I'm not sure how this differs from a front loader. I like the access much better than top-loaders. Check out the website here http://mountainsmith.com/index.php/ghost-50.html

I can't speak to any current packs, but I would recommend both the Granite Gear Vapor Trail Latitude and the Granite Gear Stratus Access FZ. The Stratus is pretty large, but the front panel systems on both packs are excellent.
