View Full Version : Homeless guy on the AT at 19E

Has anyone seen the man who lives where the AT crosses 19E west of Elk Park, NC? Did he used to live at the Apple House before it was dismantled? He seems friendly enough--and very lonely. We gave him peanut butter crackers and power bars and some cash. I'm conflicted because I think everyone should live and let live without judgment. However, I would be a lot more sympathetic to him if there weren't so much trash around his little tent. There was a huge pile of restaurant take-out containers and food wrappers on the hill going down to the creek.
Anyone know his story?
Was he near mountain harbor b&b?
I know that he gets a visit from a case worker regularly right there at the trailhead. I've seen him several times and he's harmless (or seems so).

Didn't see him four weeks ago when Marie (10K's wife) dropped us off there.

Didn't notice him either, finished up at 19e on Oct.16.

I heard his belongings were taken out not long ago.

Thanks, everyone, for the updates. I worry about him now that it's gotten so much colder at night. He was not a "spring chicken".
Labojo: No, he wasn't at the Mtn. Harbour Inn, he was camped right on the trail just south of 19E (between 19E and the site of the old Apple House shelter).
