Everything about these cups is good news. The lid makes for a perfect match.

The mug fits well on the Venom Super stove, the Fancee Feest and the StarLyte stove. All one piece stoves. What's not to love about a 1 piece stove with integrated pot support.;)

Just stopped in to include a message that there are no International orders on this sale. Sorry.

Hey I really love my Imusa pot and Fancy Feest stove. I wonder where I can find a mug that will nest inside the pot?

zelph

Glad you like it Alterboy. I have some 1 cup size that fit inside of it. Can be had with or without lid.
No handle on it, just plain.

Let me know if others are also interested in a one cup size that nests inside the 10cm.

Side note....I used to be an alterboy at St. Michael in Chicago, IL. Way back when the mass was in Latin and there were no guitars in the choir.;)

I'd like a little bigger than a one cup size-maybe 12 oz if possible. I was never an Altarboy, it's a nickname I was given by a friend when I was a little tipsy and admitted to having Catholic -envy as I was raised in the Church of Christ (Baptists sans piano) and our services seemed dull by comparison. The nickname spread and stuck. My trail name is Biscuit with a slightly longer story of it's origin.

I just ordered this and I love the lid. It sounds so simple, but I've been searching for a small cup to cook with that has a lid for a long time. I took the GSI plastic cup from another set I have and stuck it inside this and that's all I will be using going forward.

The lids overhang approximately 1/16 of an inch. Maybe a tad less.

With that great price, I was happy to buy another pot. I really like my titanium kettle (http://www.evernewamerica.com/ECA318.htm), but it's not stable on a Whisperlite. So it was either this, or pay more for an Expresso Star (http://www.backpackingfun.com/stacc-espressostar.html).

So the oval bottom on the Ti Kettle really makes it difficult to set on the stove? What stoves are good for the kettle? I bet the Fancee Feest would work well or the Venom Super Stove. Maybe even the GOTO.

It works well with my Gram Weenie. I like the way the flames wrap around the bottom. It's too narrow though, and it tipped over the last time I used it. The GOTO might work.

The most efficient vessel I ever tested was a 2.5 cup capacity aluminum cereal bowl. It was one of those vintage anodized shiny colored bowls from the 60's.

A little heads up here.....over at Backpackinglight.com in the DIY gear forum a guy found a small angle food cake pan that fits perfect inside the 10cm mug. I'm so exicited about it I can hardly contain myself whooooo!!!!!

I've had great success at steam baking in larger jello molds. I think they are about 6" dia. The 10cm mug is about 4" dia. Much better size for backpacking. Tomorrow I go out on a shopping search for some that will fit the mug. I'll report back if I have any success.

Steam baking is really easy, you got to try it when you find the cake pan to fit.

If I find a reliable source I'll make them available with the mugs.

I'll get a link to my website where I and others share their success at baking with jello molds/cak pans from thrift stores.

I have not tried a silicone cup but if I find one today that fits I'll get one. The silicone might be the best way to go....maybe. aluminum should be lighter I would think.

Here is a link to the thread about baking. Lots of pages and photos. A mix of info and is a good read. I made meat loaf and flan using my alcohols stoves. I think this 10cm mug is going to be one of my cups of choice if I can bake in it also. As soon as I find a cake tin I'll start baking. My wife alows me to use my stoves in the kitchen as long as it's for baking......go figure!!!!!

Tried it out last night, it works beautifully. Floated the silicone muffin cup in a little less than an inch of water and ran an ounce of fuel through the Fancee Feest... Perfect blueberry muffin. :)

I have one with a carbon felt wrap on the handle, that works well... I just use a scrap of silicone (cut from a baking mat) as a pot grabber though.

I cut the rim off a Easy Mac bowl and use that as a coffee cup... BPA free so safe for boiling water, and super light. Nests right inside once the rim is removed. :)

Everything I have tried gets too hot for me to be able to pick up the pot without having to quickly drop it down to prevent getting burned. I have come to the conclusion that a jersey glove is the way to go for me. an alternative is to know your stove well enough to put just the right amount of fuel in to boil your water and then go out. Let it sit there for 2 min. and then pick it up off the stove. aluminum handles cool off quickly once they are away from the stove heat. Today I tried using a 3" diameter carbon felt pad to pick it up right after I shut the heat off. Water was to a boil and I was able to pick up the pot and hold onto it. 1/4" thick carbon fiber works as a grabber to the handle after the heat is off.

Glad to hear of the success with the silicone muffin cup:). I searched locally but could not find a suitable size jello mold or angel food cake pan. I bought 2 4" pans via ebay and they were shipped today. I also was able to work out a trade with the guy at backpackinglight for 2 pans like he showed in his thread. He shipped them out yesterday. So next week I'll be turning out some muffins. Banana nut is my favorite:)

Nice idea to use the Easy Mac bowl for a cup that fits inside. I have the large size aluminum Armour wieners can that fits inside. It is 1cup capacity with head room for boil. 180degrees is good for me, don't need the boil, too hot;) StarLyte stove fits inside the cup.

I was able to complete 50 lids today so Monday I'll ship some of the orders that came in today.:)

Another option is the GSI silicone microgripper. It works for pots with no handles, but will also work on a hot IMUSA handle.

Hey Zelph, I just received my 10cm earlier today. I will second everyone else that the lid fits great. Thanks for the deal. I was also going to ask about the handle being hot. I am new to alcohol stoves. I am using a fancy feast stove I made and it seems like the flames are reaching past the edges and going up the sides of the pot. Do any of you have any recommendations for a better stove for the 10cm pot or is this normal? The pot was to hot to pick up for at least twenty minutes but I did probably have twice the fuel I needed.

Use only a half ounce of fuel and see how that burns for you. If the flame go out from under the pot alittle and up the side a little that's ok. Too much fuel in it will give a hotter burn. Follow the directions given with the stove. Pour in fuel, place pot on stove, light the area where you can see the white wick material. Pot goes on first, then light. Keep windscreen at least 1" from pot all the way around. No gaps in the windscreen. You need to get one of those silicone handle grabbers as shown in my previous comment.

At least a year ago I had the idea to make muffins in silicone egg poaching cups. I found them yesterday and tried them out today with Jiffy corn bread mix. Used the 10cm Imusa and steam bake method. It was my first try, used all the batter up. The last one came out perfect.

Hey Zelph, I don't actually have a Fancy Feast stove you sale. Sorry for using your stove name but thanks for the pointers. It's just a diy that I just punched some holes in. I did buy a silicone pot grabber at wal-mart today. I also found a couple aluminum pots at a Bargain Hunt today that I thought looked pretty cool. I'm not sure if they would be good for any type of steam baking like you were talking about. They are a little thicker aluminum than the Imusa pot. I don't know if they will nest inside because I did not buy them but I think I will go back and pick one up. I'll see if I can upload a pic from my phone. See what ya'll think.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/02/esyryges.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/02/yrezuzus.jpg

Ok, DIY Fancee Feests have to have the white fiberglass from the automotive stores. It has to be wound tight on the pot support and not extend above the rim of the can. If you use other materials such as muffler wrap or carbon fiber felt it's not going to be efficient. It will burn hot/radical up the sides of the pot more than what you should have. It's a science. "You learn as you burn". :-)

When we bake we want 2 things, reasonable speed and complete bake in the middle. The angel food cake pan with the cone up the center allows for complete bake in the middle and gives us reduced baking time.

An aluminum container like you found will take longer to heat up, weigh more in you pack. But that's ok for me :-) Your new found container will work. You need to practice in your kitchen. Use "Everclear" alcohol in a well tuned stove. There are many videos on youtube that have different methods.

I'm going to start experimenting with the smaller 4" diameter cake pans. I need more practice also with the egg poaching container. hehe, the egg poacher can also be used to pick up the hot handle of the Imusa Mug. It's heavy duty silicone. I like dual purpose items :-) I also am very fond of eggs :-) Poached eggs on toast.....ooohhhh soooo goood

The cake pan you found looks nice and commercial grade. Nice find.

Hey, I bought a couple of your lids.
How do you make these, could you easily make a slightly different size?

I have a Stainless 10cm cup from china, weighs 2.04 oz vs the ~2.7 oz for the IMUSA. Was hoping these lids would fit it too, but they dont. About 1/8" too large. Id love to have a lid like these that would fit it too.

Does the white beveled part fit your SS mug? I can make the overall diameter smaller.

I also have an over supply of 11cm stainless steel mugs that the aluminum lid fits onto. I'll see if I can get a photo of it for you. The stainless mug comes with a 1oz stainless lid compared to 1/4oz weight of the aluminum lid.

Hey Dan, I ordered a Simmerlight Stove and Imusa Mug and lid last week and they showed up yesterday. Very good quality on the stove, and I love how that lid really snaps/fits on the imusa mug so well. Ill have to put a review on BPL

I highlighted in red part of the above quote. That statement didn't mean anything out of the ordinary at the time until today. I was trying lids on different pots and I have an Imusa Mug with a dent in it from the manufacture and the mug is tiny bit oval at the rim. With very little pressure I was able to push the lid down onto the rim so as to make it "snap" into place. turned the mug upside down and lid stays firmly attached. Wow, the light went on:) So to make your lid a "snap-on" just squeeze your mug rim a little so it's just a tiny bit oval. Notice I say "tiny" bit.;) With a little pull the lid comes off easily...so you now have a mug that the lid stays put while stored in your pack. This whole mug thing is working out way better than I ever thought. It's so cool:cool:

I baked today. Made 2 donuts. Need to refine the method. I used my kitchen stove, a stainless steel mug, an aluminum angel food cake pan insert and then a angel food non stick pan inside of that. Disregard all the parts I just wanted to test the cake mix and baking time using steam

1st test was a bake for 4 min.

Second test was a bake for 6 min with more batter.

The donuts turned really great tasting and moist.

I'll probably start a thread next time after all the tests are completed. for now a couple of photos:

The donut on the left was the 1st, baked for 4 min. The one on the right baked for 6 min.

The cake batter is 3 parts mix, 2 parts water

Unfortunately not. The recessed part doesnt go into it, thats whats 1/8" too big. Ive toyed with some ideas of how to make a nice lid, but all involve too much work for a one-off.

Congrats on the doughnut success Zelph. Unfortunately, my first attempt the other night during the super bowl was a complete fail lol. I did buy the container in the picture above. I attempted to dry bake some chocolate chip muffin mix. My diy cat food stove got a little out of control. It has worked great for boiling water in my bigger pot but it was overwhelming the Imusa 10cm. The coffee filter that I was using as a liner inside the little muffin pot started smoldering and stunk up the house. My diy stove was burning so hot I could not grab the Imusa to get it off the stove. I used an oven mitt and it burned a hole right the mitt. I was able to use some tongs and grab it and take it outside. On a more positive note the muffin looked like it would have turned out pretty good in my little pot if not for the overall heat explosion.

Thanks for passing along your cooking progress. In the meantime I need to order a real Zelph stove and avoid my Diy for cooking with. I am not giving up after seeing all the new options for trail food.

I suspect the Super Bowl distracted you and that was the cause of the failure.;)

Your next try will be better.

I'm getting better at it. A 6 min boil makes a cake. I use 1/2 cup water on the bottom of the pot.

After 6 min. I remove from pot and place into the heavy duty silicone egg poacher. That allows me to hold the hot cakepan and using a plastic spoon, eat right out of the pan. The 1 piece non stick pan makes for easy clean up.

I'm cooking these test cakes on my kitchen stove. My next tests will be with an alcohol stove to determine how much fuel is needed to do one cake. Once I complete some tests in that fashion I will create a thread in the food forum.

326-Recipe:
3/4 cup cake mix
1/2 cup water
6 min. boil in mini angel food cake pan.

I used my 2 pice aluminum cake pan....don't like it!!! too messy for clean up.

Same cake mix and water.

I used a StarLyte stove for simmering, 1/2 ounce denatured alcohol and steamed the cake for 6 min.

HI Zelph,

I made a cookset based on your inventiveness (got a couple of free Imusas over at HF), made the lids and handles - and I am pleased - however, I am interested in one of your lids for the 12 cm. Do you make lids for the 12's?

btw, these Imusa sets are great! Extremely light with high capacity and cheap. And, after using just about every alky stove out there, the Fancee Feest you came up with is imho the best of all. Gorgeous blue flame, pretty long burning time, and I especially like the way you can control the flame height by adjusting the pot support height. I was able to dial these in for very small pots as well as the big 1.1's and the wide-body pots. Great going!

Hi "Brancher" nice kit you've put together.

I'm sorry to say I have not had the time to make lids for the 12cm Imusa mugs.

On Monday I will have some 4" diameter carbon felt discs that really work well for picking up the mugs by their hot handles.

I'll also have some pieces that are 4"x6"

How are you adhering the felt to your mug, what product?

No adhesive (I wanted to be able to remove the felt for cleaning or other uses). I found that 1/4" carbon felt stretches much more than you'd expect, but doesn't have the elasticity to go back to original size. I first sewed it so it was a very slightly snug fit on the 10cm, but it became very very loose with no handling. So I ended up pulling and stretching as tight as I could - twice - and sewed it up that way to keep it snug.

So far it's working. If it loosens up too much next time out, I'll try something else - but I like the felt. It stays slightly warm with hot liquid, easy to nest, and makes for a very quiet kit when it's packed up in 'deluxe' mode (taking both Imusas instead of just 1).

Interesting to see that pulling and stretching helped stabilize it. good solution.:)

The felt so far is the only thing that has worked for me. Just recently tried 4 inch diameter discs. They are easy to hold onto and have a good "feel" about them when grabbing the hot handle on the mugs. I need to make a video of them when in actual use to show how they shield against the heat rising under the handle.

Take a look at them:

I brought a copy of this post over from the cooking forum.;) It's egg and mug related:D baking also;)

I love eggs big time. I eat them prepared any which way I can:D

I found a stainless steel condiment pan thingy at a local "Dollar Store" that works awesomely well with the 10cm Imusa Mug. I put 2 holes in the pan to allow steam to enter to enhance/speed up the cooking time, whoooo, works awesome.;)

The pan also works well for baking. I use a mix called the 321 which is a mix for Microwaving a quick sweet treat. The mix consists of angle food and regular cake mixes.

Back to the eggs. I use a few drops of olive oil as a release medium to prevent sticking to the pan. I put in a half inch of water in the mug and start it to boiling. I put the pan of 3 eggs onto the top of mug when I see the little bubbles beginning to form. I then put the lid on and cook for 6 min. Remove from heat, add a little margarine, pepper and salt and best of all.....eat:)

3 eggs cooked in 6 min. Works for me:)
