With this long holiday weekend in front of us who's going for a hike and where? As for me, I'll be taking my son up Blood Mountain.

Grandfather Mountain, NC. To Calloway Peak from the Boone Fork trailhead on the Blue Ridge Parkway. First time up in 16 years.

I like to roll up from the Calloway Peak overlook. Adds a little distance on the day and takes you down by the creek for a little bit.

I like to roll up from the Calloway Peak overlook. Adds a little distance on the day and takes you down by the creek for a little bit.
I used to park at Holloway Mtn Rd and walk up the under-construction BRP to Calloway View with our infant son in a home-made carrier lashed to a backpack frame. Wife and I would take turns with him while the other fished Boone Fork Creek. He'll soon be 31. He was born in 1983 and I think that final segment opened in 1985 with the completion of the Linn Cove Viaduct.

Both Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway were closed, but I still managed to go white white blazing in the SNP for a little while.

I think I'll get started with PA in the next couple weeks. Looking at 94 down to the MD line, 50 miles or so.
