On the approach trail just behind the Visitors Center at the arch stands a small stone "monument" with the old AT logo inscribed. Does anyone know the history of this? My son is doing a school paper on the AT and would like to include some information about this. Thanks

There is more than enough blogs and posts about what to pack for a thru hike but all of them seem to be orientated around the starting of a thru hike. I'm curious what was in your pack when you reached Katahdin. ie: cooking system, sleeping system, food, clothing, misc odds and ends etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows any usefull hiking apps for the iPhone. I usually do day hikes along the Georgia section of the AT if that helps somehow. Thanks
