Hopper and I went to breakfast this morning and got on trail at 8 am. Things went great for the first mile and a half. Shortly after that Hopper started falling behind. When I got halfway up the first climb hill I noticed she was nowhere behind me. I waited at the top for about 20 minutes until I saw her pack coming up through the woods. We took a zero day today because Hopper was still not feeling well.

We went to breakfast at The Barn Restaurant. I ate something called the 2x4, which is two eggs, two pancakes, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of sausage, and two biscuits with gravy on them. That was a lot to eat and it did fill me up.

Hopper was very sick this morning and she is my hiking partner and more right now. She has a growth within her that she needs some medications for it. It will take a few days for the meds to arrive. Her current location on the trail is in Atkins, which was only 54 miles from where I am now on the trail. We decided to jump ahead to Atkins and pick up the trail from there so we could continue hiking together. I will come back later to make that up. I will do it after ...

I went to the fire department for the chicken BBQ but did not see any thru hikers there so I did not bother going in. I just ended up walking around town and socializing.

I ran into Charlie in town today. He said he was in Atkins but was getting off the trail now. He had a heart bypass last fall and he explained that he was having trouble on the uphill’s now and needed to get it looked at. He also said if it was as easy as getting a stint put in ...

Today was Friday, the day when things really start happening at Trail Days. Bismarck and I had talked about doing another slack pack to get us a little further north but I decided not to because I did not want to miss some of the events.

I checked in to Ruby's Rest today. I made reservations earlier in the hike for this place. It is a really nice place; I wished I had known about this place in my past visits to Damascus.
