  1. Day 38: Mile 300!

Woke up rested and feeling good. Pushed through the remaining climb and then it leveled out thankfully. We were on a rocky ridge for a couple miles. It was beautiful, but hard going. Not Sureís heel has been bothering him for awhile, but the rocks did him in. He and 2 Knees decided to get off trail and shuttle to Erwin. I was feeling really good and didnít want to figure out the logistics to get back, so I decided to push on. Plus I had a feeling Not Sure may have to take several zeros to rest and ...

  2. Day 37: Hard, but short day

Only 8.6 miles today, but the second half looks like a hard climb. Got off on a normal start and made good time, but that climb was brutal. Apparently NC doesnít believe in switch backs. Basically, itís straight up then you get a little flat as a break then it starts all over again. Thankfully, I made it to the shelter before 2pm, so I spent the afternoon napping and resting in my tent. I needed it. Tomorrow starts with another 2 miles uphill then it levels out thankfully.

  3. Day 36: Hard Climb in the heat

Finally setting off from the Happy Gnomad today, unfortunately today is mostly up hill. I finally got my wish and the cold is gone. It suppose to get up in the 80s today. ☀️ Well with the heat comes snakes. Saw my first copperhead today. It was right in the middle of the trail. Luckily I saw it before I stepped on it and it quickly moved on. Todayís climb was no joke. Still kept good time, but it was hard. Made sure to stay hydrated and kept applying the sunscreen. Made it Spring Mountain ...

  4. Day 35: Slack Packing to Hot Springs

Just over 6 miles today to get us into Hot Springs and itís almost all downhill. 2 Knees and Not Sure are joining me again today. We hiked at the same pace yesterday, so we all seem well matched on pace. Due to the short mileage, we slept in and didnít get started until 10am. Still made it into Hot Springs in time for lunch. Had a delicious burger at the Iron Horse Station. The hostel owners got a 8 week old Pyrenees puppy today, so we spent the afternoon getting puppy cuddles. The hostel also slack ...

  5. Day 34: Slack Packing Max Patch

Today Iím slack packing 14 miles from Max Patch road to Garenflo Gap. 2 Knees and Not Sure also planned to do the same thing so we coordinated our ride in the morning to split the cost. Got out on trail shortly after 9am and was met with fog and wind. Supposedly Max Patch has pretty views, but we didnít see anything unfortunately. It was a nice section, where I had gotten off trail I had really been through the worst of it, but Iím still glad I got off. Got some trail magic at lemon and garenflo ...
