We recently (May 2011) stayed at the Mounting Crossings Hostel.
This was the filthiest place we have ever seen
since we start section hiking the AT.
There was a dead rat underneath the sofa.
You could hear the crunching of the bones while the cats feeding on it.
Cats were all over the place and peed on my mattress were I had to sleep.
Not to mentioned how the bathroom looked like.
In general, this place hasn't seen a clean up in years.

Ok ..June 2nd is the start date for a short section on the trail Hot Springs, NC to Davinport Gap, Tn .. everything is packed and ready to go .. Jim, Neil and Adam will fly in June 1st and we will be on the trail ....

17 - 23 May 2011 Off trail for R&R with Family. It has been difficult to be away from the family for this long. Getting off the trail for a week will allow me to go to my sons ball games and support the prego wife.

10 May 2011 - Tue- Day 57: Clear/80F HOT 11 Miles to mile 861 Calf Mountain Shelter. Low miles today due to resupply in Waynesboro. Ended the Blue Ridge Parkway and started Skyline Drive.

11 May 2011 - Wed - Day 58: Part Cloudy/ 80F 27 miles to mile 887.2 Pinefiled Hut. This is the easiest miles thus far.

12 May 2011 - Thu - Day 59: Overcast/ 75F 32.8 miles to mile 919.3 Rock Spring Hut. Great Day and terrain for long miles.

3 May 2011 - Tue - Day 50: Rain/ 75F 20 miles to mile 731.1 Wilson Creek Shelter. Shelter was very crowded due to Rain Easy Miles today.

4 May 2011 - Wed - Day 51: Clear/ Breazy 65F 20.8 miles to mile 751.9 Bryant Ridge Shelter. Very Easy miles back and forth across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

5 May 2011 - Thu- Day 52: Clear/ 70F 24.6 miles to mile 776.7 Glasgow, VA. Hitched to the town of Glasgow which is a long hitch. There is a shelter for hikers in town, but it is a ...
