Chicken Feathers and I got dropped off at TN 91 around 8 am. Bismarck was still not up to hiking yet. He told me that I could move on without him. He knew I was anxious to meet back up with Hopper in Damascus, she was supposed to be in Damascus today. I felt bad about leaving him but he was doing a lot better and I did want to hook back up with Hopper. We got off to a good start. Today, I hiked 10 miles on the AT from Elk's Pen on Arden Valley road, NY (SR 17) sobo to West Mombasha road and back.

It was a great day for hiking; very cool and breezy. No problem with bugs at all (although I still use DEET against ticks).

Hiking this section, I met a number of thru-hikers, but only one group of day hikers. It seems that most of the day hikers stay in Harriman Park.

When we got up this morning Bismarck was not feeling good so he decided not to do the slack pack with us. Chicken Feathers and I were the only ones doing the southbound slack pack. It was very chilly when we got out of the car. Reverend offered a stocking cap to Chicken Feathers and a rain coat to me for extra warmth. We both accepted and we did not regret it one bit later. Bismarck was still feeling sick this morning. We decided it was best not to hike today so we took a zero day. We went to breakfast and the Dollar General store for some resupplies. The Dollar General is the store of choice for us hikers when they are available.

This afternoon we walked to Subway for lunch.

We arranged for a slack pack south bound from TN 51 tomorrow.

Bismarck and I left Kincora this morning at about 7. We ran into Rider and Noah on the road head in out, they coming in as we were leaving. We made the easy walk to Laurel Falls. The falls were spectacular, the best falls I have seen on the trail so far.

About three fourths of the way up Pond Flats Bismarck started feeling sick. When we got to the top he was not getting any better. We decided it was best to head into the town of Hampton ...
